8/31 Freebie Friday!

I know it's a bit late in the day, but here is Freebie Friday #2!!

Today is a double good Friday, you get a tutorial AND a super Freebie download!

First up, the tutorial! Last time I showed you how to texture a photo. Now I'm taking that a step further and will be showing you how to make your own grunge brushes and use them on your photos! It's a bit longer of a tutorial (I guess I tend to ramble, huh), but there's a bunch of good info in there!

Click here to go to Full Screen.

After watching the tutorial, you can go HERE to download an action that speeds up the grunging process (using the same steps I show in the tutorial), as well as a set of grunge brushes I use all the time on my own photos. It's a zipped file (includes the action and the brush set), so you'll have to unzip it to install.

Remember, the freebie will only be up this week, so snag it while you can.

Also, remember to leave me a comment, hello, suggestion, whatever in the comments and you may win your choice of action sets (Winner will be posted on Monday, so check back then!).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Thanks Kylie! That was brilliant - can't believe how many different things I just learnt - love how you mention other things (like extraction) as you worked through it! Excellent!

I love this. The fact that you are not arubtly changing the subject is so cool. You went from texturing with an action to grunging with a brush. It's great for people to develop their own style by seeing and learning what different options they are!

Thank you so much, Kylie, your tutorials are really intuitive and helpful.

One neat trick that I have picked up (don't know if you do know it and just didn't use it for the benefit of not complicating things further for the viewers, or if you
actually don't know it) is to hit any number key while on a layer, and that will change the opacity of the layer, i.e., pressing 7 will make it 70%.

There are two exceptions to this:
a) if you have the eraser or any kind of brush selected, it will alter the opacity of the brush instead of the opacity of the layer itself (I usually hit "m" or "v" to bring either the marquee or the arrow tool before doing this);

b) if you have just altered the blend mode, and the blend mode is still highlighted, then it just won't work (I usually just click on the background layer and then back on the layer I want to work with, and it works fine again).

One tutorial that I would love to see you do is how to retouch eyes without having them look fake; it would be even neater if you could make the photo you use in the tutorial available for practice (with a huge copyright brush over it, of course).

These are all just thoughts, fantastic work you have been doing here, Kylie, and sorry if any of my english seems awkward, I'm not a native speaker.

Kylie, I'm fairly new to PS, so I've just barely scratched the surface on what can be done. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed because there's so much to learn, but I don't know where to find the info. Your tutorials have been a huge blessing. Everything you explain is very clear, and to be able to watch it happen has helped immensely. It is so generous of you to do this. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!!

I am not a "blogger", but I came across your blog somehow and it is now one of my favorite places to visit daily. When a new post shows up, I feel like it's Christmas :)

Any chance you could see your tutorials on a DVD or something? I would love to be able to have them all in one place and have the ability to watch them over and over again. If I don't use something A LOT, I forget it...ugh

If there is already a place to download these tutorials, please let me know...I want them ALL :)

Thanks for sharing your Photoshop knowledge, I am forever grateful.

Thank you so much! This is such a great way to learn Photoshop techniques - much better than struggling through books.

I'm still waiting for your Sunshine in Your Hand Action to work in PSE - i've been drooling over that for months now!

I'm new to your blog and tried to view your last tutorial but I think I've waited too long. The link said it was no longer available. Any chance you'd publish it again?
