Freebie Friday 10/5

Today's tutorial/freebie is one that comes with a disclaimer/warning. I'm going to be showing you how to Selectively color a photograph (leave some things in color). While this is a cool method, and very good at focusing attention, please please PLEASE don't over use it. There's nothing worse than a B/W photo with a random object in color that has nothing to do with the photo. This is a technique that should NOT be used just because you know how to do it. I take no responsiblity for badly selectively colored photos that may result from watching this tutorial. Use at your own risk!

With that out of the way.. On to the tutorial:

Go HERE to watch

After watching the tutorial you can snag an action that does the steps

HERE

Also, remember to leave me a comment, hello, suggestion, whatever in the comments and you may win your choice of action sets (Winner will be posted on Monday, so check back then!)

And THIS week's winner will win a set of the brand spankin'  new phaunt EXTRAS set.. still yet to be released. I'm still finishing up the set, but this weeks winner will not only get their choice of color or b/w , but they'll get to have the new extras set before it's available for purchase.. how cool is that?

Remember, I LOVE to see examples of what you're doing with the tutorials, so if you leave me one that just might help your chances of winning..... also.. Remember that I LOVE elephants, the color purple, and Dr. Pepper.. any one of those things (or a combination of them) may also help your chances.. Just giving some ideas ;)

I am Sooooooooooo close to releasing the new extras sets.. just have to finish up stuff.. Keep your eyes on the blog, I'll be giving away stuff to kick off the new sets, you don't want to miss them!

Have a great Weekend everyone!!

Ok so I can't figure out how to post a photo, and I really wanted you to see what I did w/your tutorial. I know it's simple, but it's the photos I had open at the time I went and viewed the video. I love that you teach everything on "how to" and then give you the short cuts. I tried this both ways, but liked doing it myself best.

Thanks once again for a great tutorial. I have a picture I have been wanting to do this too, but have not taken the time to learn how to do it yet. I am inspired now to get it done. If I get brave enough I will post it :-)

Kylie- I was amazed at this tutorial. I've been doing the history tool to add color back in. This is more simple and detailed. I'll have more control! I can not WAIT to try this.
PS: LOVE LOVE LOVE the "ElePHAUNT" tips that show up on the side... great touch!

I can say 'Thank you' - but...
It's not enough to say the things like 'It's amazing' or 'It's very useful'
There are too many things to do in the life: children, house, work etc. etc.
I can just say 'You are Mother Teresa for Photoshop users', not only in the Unites States, but all around the world.

From Russia with love,
Sergey

Thanks so much for the tutorials Kylie, and thanks for the WARNING about overuse of selective coloring. Nothing is worse than when I have a client ask me if I can take a black and white photo of their kid, but leave the eyes blue... I always tell them it's never as good as they think it will be.... Most people end up agreeing THANK GOODNESS!!!

Here's a link to my play - purple tutu - and I added the purple elephant. Sorry - no Dr Pepper to be had here. LOL!

I just wanted to tell you thank you.

I have PS Elements 3. I as getting rather discouraged with it since I couldn't seem to figure out how to do much of anything with it. But in watching your tutorials (even though they aren't for Elements) I have been playing with it more and more. Challanging myself to find a way to do what it is that you are teaching. Because of your tutorials, I'm learning. Thank you for that.

Dixie said...

Oh yeah, it might be nice for me to show you my play on it, hu?

What a coincidence! I LOVE elephants the color purple and Dr. Pepper TOO!!! and I LOVE the amazingly cool tutorials and freebies you put on here! I am also a teacher; when I taught Kindergarten I had a sweet little boy named Nick who was CRAZY about elephants. Every time he saw a picture of one he would squeal and get very excited. Anytime another child saw one, they'd run to him and show him the picture. Every time I see your elephants on here, I think of him. Now, who can turn down a sweet teacher who had a sweet elephant lovin' kid in her class?!

Hey Kylie, thanks for the awesome tutorial. I hope you dont mind, but I used a couple of the wedding photos you took to try out the selective color. I think they turned out great. you can check them out on flickr.
Thanks :)
